Skill Swap Sri Lanka

Swap your skills for time in Sri Lanka

We currently require the following skills:

  • An arborealist / tree surgeon
  • Gardener / landscaper

  • Hostel manager / Chef
  • TESOL Director of Studies, and experienced TESOL teacher

If you have skills, you think we could use, and you are able to prove your experience, and qualifications, we will be happy to discuss Skill Swap Sri Lanka.

Conditions of our Skill Swap Sri Lanka

  1. Contact us by email and outline the skills you have to trade for your stay with us in Sri Lanka: these skills must be evidenced, with: 
    1. Completed GAFV application form
    2. Recognised qualifications and original certificates
    3. Full CV, with clear explanations of any gaps
    4. 2 professional References,
    5. Clear evidence on your CV of commitment to the companies you have worked for, or volunteered for, or institutions you have studied with.
    6. In-person and / or skype interview. 
  2. A DBS from the country of which you are a passport holder, and each country you have lived in for longer than 6 months since age 16, is essential.
  3. You will work a 4 day week (you can work more), and at least 8 hours/day (not including breaks), with recorded and agreed start and finish times, and recorded agreed outcomes.
  4. A professional approach to work is expected at all times. This includes, but is not limited to: good timekeeping, adherence to Health and Safety policy, your good representation of us as a company at all times, respect for our Sri Lankan hosts and customs, wearing our company tee shirts whilst at work (See our Terms & Conditions for full details),
  5. You will be provided with 7 days accommodation at our HQ
  6. You will be provided with 2 meals/day on your designated work days at our HQ
  7. We will sign a Voluntary letter of agreement drawn up by our company solicitor, which sets out the voluntary agreement between us. 
  8. You will be required to pay us £2,000 in advance of your arrival, and prior to our visa application of your behalf 
    1. £999 is the standard rate paid by each volunteer for their first month of volunteering, which will be repaid to you on successful completion of that month's agreed work (or held for each month you wish to stay with us in Sri Lanka)
    2. £1,001 will be repaid within one week of our receipt of evidence that you have left Sri Lanka within 4 weeks of the end of our agreement (this enables you to holiday in Sri Lanka [depending on your visa expiry date] on the visa that was given on the basis of your volunteering with our company).
  9. You will be responsible for paying for your flights
  10. You will be responsible for paying for your visa/s and visa admin fee
  11. You will be required to sign our T&Cs
  12. You will require your own travel insurance
  13. You will require additional money for the days you are not working, for travel in Sri Lanka, and food
  14. You will be required to pay for your own transport around Sri Lanka when travelling
  15. You will be required to pay for your own local bus transport for any work related travel (to be agreed).
 

Internships

Join us in Sri Lanka for up to a year and have a fully supported exciting time on the work of our non-profit, and NGO in education, development, and conservation, we have many opportunities for you to advance yourself and your career, whilst on an internship with us.

The payments made to GAFV reflect the costs of your accommodation (7 days / week), food (5 days / week), and 24 hour support In Sri Lanka

Funding may be available to support people who wish to join us but are on low incomes (Please contact us for details. Criteria will apply).

Our internships in Sri Lanka are designed for those:

  • who are keen to live and volunteer in Sri Lanka 3 - 6 months, and from 6 - 12 months
  • who have transferable skills who would like to be in Sri Lanka (see also Skill Swap Sri Lanka)
  • who have no recognised skills or experience, and wish to improve their CV, life skills, and employability in a genuinely safe and supportive environment
  • who are CELTA qualified or its equivalent, but without experience and want to create a firm foundation for their TESOL career
  • who are experienced TESOL teachers, but without the CELTA or its equivalent  
  • wishing to become TESOL qualified, supported by our education company.

TESOL Trainee teAChers (Internship Prices Apply)

Train with us, and be fully equipped to teach overseas as a TESOL teacher.

Your training requires our mutual commitment to each other, which will include regular meetings (see training schedule booklet), mentoring, lesson planning support, as well as in school support, which is reflected in the training supplement.
