I am often asked by enquirers if our company does ‘voluntourism’, and the answer is we don’t. Some companies sell a volunteer tourism package that may include going into a school, or a village, or a turtle sanctuary to volunteer some services as you travel, with minimal impact.’

Nepal: geography and wildlife
Set in the NE of the Indian sub-continent, on the slopes of the Himalayas, and overlooked by its towering heights, Nepal offers a kaleidoscope of experiences. 45% of Nepal remains forested, 26% is under agricultural production, the rest is rivers, lakes, and the ‘roof of the world’. Some come to scale Mount Everest, others to trek, and marvel at the natural beauty of the terrain and landscapes.
Nepal boasts incredible wildlife, including Bengal tigers (Nepal having doubled its population of these in 10 years), rhinoceroses, and elephants, which are protected and thriving in the Chitwan, and Bardia National Park sanctuaries. Fish swim in its many lakes and stream, colourful birds inhabit its forests, well camouflaged ones inhabit its hills, and eagles and vultures patrol the skies.
Nepal’s people and culture
The beating heart of Nepal lies in its people—their warmth, resilience, and unwavering spirit. Nepalese communities warmly welcome travellers and volunteers, with volunteers able to experience their traditions, festivals, and daily life. The ancient cities of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan have ornate temples and palaces, testimony to the country's rich history and spiritual traditions of Hinduism, and Buddhism, which are additional draws for tourists.
The Nepalese people, however, are not without challenges in their lives and communities. Nepal is a secular federal democracy, and has been since 2006, though religion takes a major part in people’s lives, as it does throughout SE Asia. Details for your placement as a volunteer in Nepal
Visas:
Visa are arranged with you by GAFV, using the necessary with documentation provided by our project partners. It is not possible to volunteer on a Tourist Visa.
The first Visa is for 2 weeks, which can be extended up to 90 days. Beyond this,
Electives:
Those wishing to carry out medical, Dental, Nursing electives must provide evidence of enrolment on the relevant courses.
Licenced Practice:
Those wishing to practice as Drs. Nurses, and Dentists in Ghana may do so for 8 weeks without registration with the Ghanaian medical authorities. This is on approval and acceptance of the licencing issued by your home country, and recognition of relevant qualifications by the hospital.

For both licenced practice and Electives GAFV requires 1 professional reference, on headed paper, sent to us from a work’s email address.
Police Clearance Checks:
All people on our programmes must provide a criminal record check from the country that issues your passport, and any country you have been residing in for over 12 months in the year prior to joining us.
Airport pickup:
Depending on your arrival time at the airport, it may be advisable to arrive in Ghana the day before the agreed pick-up time.
Orientation:
you will receive an orientation program before beginning on arrival at your base in Ghana, and before your programme begins.
Program timetable:
You may volunteer in Nepal for 4 to 6 days a week (we recommend a 4 day week), to allow yourself weekends off to experience the history, culture, and sights of Nepal.
Accommodation:
You will stay at the hostel operated by our partner, which is 7/7
Food:
You will enjoy a range of local and foreign food; full board 7/7
Drinking water:
filtered water is provided at the designated accommodation; bottled water is available to buy outside.
You are advised not to drink the tap water.
You may wish to bring with you either, (a) water purification tablets, or (b) a portable water filtering system
Vaccinations and Health:

Yellow Fever: You will need to ensure you have a yellow fever vaccination (inoculated at least 10 days before arrival in Ghana) and certificate proving that to be allowed to enter Ghana
Mosquitos: mosquito nets are provided ate the accommodation. You may wish to bring insect repellent, and other measures as advised by your government’s travel advisories
