Colonial Era Fort Conservation

Location: Mombasa, Kenya

Weeks: 2 - 4+

Code: Ke-HC-FJ

Project Description:

This programme takes you to the city and coast of Mombasa, to volunteer at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Fort Jesus, a Portuguese era fort, and a major tourist attraction.

Here, conservation and restoration work is ongoing, including on the wreck and artefacts of a Portuguese ship of the era, which was found in the harbour and is now displayed in the fort. You may support work with tourists, and local volunteers, as well as be a part promoting Kenya’s heritage in schools.
