NGO Internship programmes

Your NGO internship can be tailored to your interests and requirements within the scope of operations of the NGOs and our partners. In Sri Lanka this spans placements with the local government officers, to working in rural development, and with NGOs working to limit the spread of AIDS.

In Uganda, this includes working with NGOs supporting mental health in the community.

You may join us to complete a university requirement, and gain experience and insight of working with NGOs in developing countries for CV building, before making that step.

Sri Lanka NGO Internship

Location: Sri Lanka

Weeks: 2 - 12

Code: SL-Pl-NGO

Our Sri Lanka NGO internships are provided through partnership with the government’s NGO Secretariat, and the local government led consortium of NGOs, which includes our own, in and around Anuradhapura.

NGOs deliver a wide range of programmes from agricultural development, and training people to work overseas, to supporting Women and male sex workers with HIV, and the LGB community.

Your training programme will give you insight into how NGOs operate in Sri Lanka, and the importance of their work here.

You will have opportunity to meet and speak with a range of community leaders (such as priests, police, NGO heads, local government officials, university staff) to identify some of the issues the people they work with face, why NGOs are valued, and constraints upon their work. There will be opportunity to join secretariat officers in the communities to witness firsthand the excellent work they do in promoting programs, and in supporting and facilitating the work of NGOs.

The part of the program with government is conducted in English, as is some work with some NGOs. Where you need an interpreter, this will be at an additional cost, which is detailed on the pricing page.

If you need experience to join a course, to satisfy placement requirements, or to get an idea of working in development, you can do so with us
