Our host countries and in-country partners

Our enriching and comprehensive range of volunteering programs in developing, low-income, and low resource countries with Give A Fig Volunteering in Africa and Asia combine cultural immersion with meaningful service, and personal and community development. GAFV is dedicated to ensuring that your volunteering is well-organized and supported, in whichever country or countries you choose to volunteer in with us.

Ghana is renowned for its vibrant culture and rich history, tracing back to ancient empires like the Ashanti. It is also known for being a stable democracy, fostering a welcoming environment for volunteers. In addition to its cultural attractions, Ghana offers stunning beaches near the volunteer placements, providing a unique blend of cultural and natural experiences.

Volunteer projects in Ghana encompass medical, dental, and teaching initiatives. Volunteers contribute to healthcare support and public health education in local schools, alongside teaching placements.

Kenya stands out as a top tourist destination famous for its diverse wildlife, including the "Big Five" (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros). GAFV's placements in Kenya encompass wildlife conservation, reforestation, community engagement with tribes such as the Maasai, elective programs, licensed practice, teaching in schools, and collaboration with HIV+ Women’s Cooperatives.

Myanmar, with its picturesque landscapes and intricately designed Buddhist temples, offers a mesmerizing backdrop for volunteers. Volunteers in Myanmar have the opportunity to engage in English teaching projects, habitat regeneration at monasteries, and teaching English in Mawlamyine and Mon State schools.

In response to current challenges in Myanmar as of March 2024, GAFV currently facilitates online English teaching to support the continuing education in English of the people at this time

Nepal

Sri Lanka is celebrated for its wildlife and birdlife, pristine beaches, ancient temples, and picturesque tea plantations. GAFV's volunteers stay at the Fig and Gecko, the organization's headquarters in Sri Lanka. They engage in teaching at local schools, undertake NGO internships, and participate in medical and dental electives and licensed practice. It's important to note that volunteering in Sri Lanka is illegal on a tourist visa, and requires the appropriate visa, which GAFV diligently arranges, ensuring your compliance with travel insurance requirements.

Uganda, often referred to as the "Pearl of Africa," boasts breathtaking natural beauty, including lush landscapes and iconic mountain ranges like the Rwenzori Mountains. Volunteers in Uganda have opportunities for electives and licensed practice in general medicine and mental health. These programs cater to a wide range of students and practitioners, from medical doctors to psychologists, social workers, and youth workers.

In all these countries, GAFV's unwavering commitment to organizing visas, collaborating with local partners, and effectively managing projects ensures that volunteers can fully focus on their mission while embracing the beauty and cultural richness of the host nation. Whether you're drawn to Ghana's history, Myanmar's spirituality, Kenya's wildlife, Uganda's natural wonders, or Sri Lanka's scenic landscapes, volunteering with GAFV offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact while exploring some of the most captivating places in Asia and Africa.
